Sensing in Water 2019 is the 5th biennial conference of the Sensing in Water Group and will be taking place on the 24th & 25th September 2019. Since its first inception in 2009 it has become one of the UK’s leading conferences for sensor development in the Water Industry enabling delegates to stay up to date with the latest developments in water sensor technology.
This year's conference & exhibition will host a number of our SWIG membership exhibiting their latest developments in sensor technology as well as a four session technical conference. The four sessions are:
Catchment Monitoring
Drainage & Wastewater Networks
Drainage infrastructure faces pressure from climate change, urbanisation and population rise, presenting an ever-increasing need to monitor and even control the flows and conditions within these systems. This session will explore newly available technologies, state-of-the-art academic studies, and remaining barriers to the smart management of drainage networks.
Distribution Network Monitoring
In distribution networks; how sensors are being used to help water companies move towards smart water networks. We are looking for papers that are broad in scope and cover installation, maintenance and application of sensors as well as the interpretation of the data
Data Analytics
The Water Industry collects millions of pieces of data but automatically converting this data to gain insight into situational awareness is a relatively modern phenomenon. In this session we will look at how the water industry can use its data more effectively to see how the industry can use data to increase operational & financial efficiency in order to further improve the service to the customer.
Why attend
Sensors and sensing technologies are set to become an integral part of the Water Industry and they are going to play a large part of both AMP7 and the whole digitalisation of the Water Industry as it moves towards Water 4.0 and as is collaboration between the supply chain, the water companies, academia and the regulators. Sensing in Water brings all of these stakeholders together to discuss the art of the possible with sensors in the water industry and identifies the art of the impossible to shape the future

Data Analytics
The session on data analytics is being chaired by Oliver Grievson, the SWIG Vice-Chairman, Technical Lead at Z-Tech Control Systems as well as the executive director of Water Industry Process Automation & Control (WIPAC). He has over 20 years experience in the Water Industry and is a specialist in wastewater instrumentation & control systems as well as an expert in the Smart Water Industry.
He has recently published a book on flow measurement in wastewater through International Water Association Publishing
